Levi and I have been married for 5 years, so this year we decided to go on a trip. We actually planned it about a year ago with some friends who are also having their 5th anniversary this year. We decided to do a backpacking trip in Glacier National Park which is in Montana. We hiked 7.8 miles into a chalet (which is just a fancy French word for a rustic cabin)where we stayed for 2 nights and then hiked back out. It was a lot of fun and the scenery was beautiful. We got to see a lot of wildlife including a momma grizzly bear and her two cubs. These bears later gave some of the other people staying at the chalet a good scare by chasing them a little ways on the trail.
This is avalanche gorge. The glacial melt is what gives the water its blue color.
Levi was taking all of the pictures so this is the only picture I have of us together until I get copies of the pics from our friends. I'll probably put up more pictures whenever we get those.
Here we are on our way in. I was told that the trail we would be hiking was along a cliff for a little way and then it leveled out. Boy was I hiking with a bunch of liars. The first part is a trail just chiseled into the rock; although, they did provide a cable to hold onto for which I was very grateful. But the rest of the trail doesn't level out. It remains at about a 12% grade on either side of you. Definitely steep enough that if you started rolling or sliding it would be a long time before you stopped. Needless to say I spent the entire hike concentrating on the ground directly in front of my feet.
The trail we were hiking along was interrupted quite frequently by runoff streams that we would have to cross.

This next picture is to give you a little perspective on the beginning of this hike. On this rock face is Bret, Melissa, and I. I'm in the white. And in the very bottom of the picture you can see the road below us. Terrifying right?
