Have you ever tried to teach a child the difference between the truth and a lie? The very words that you use have absolutely no
meaning to a child. They don't know what the word truth means. You can't say to them, " Tell me the truth." This
quandary led Michael and I to the following conversation after I walked into a room where he had been playing by himself.
Me: Michael have you been playing with the markers?
Michael: No. (smiling)
Me: Are you sure you're telling me the truth?
Michael: Yes mom.
Me: Michael, the truth is what really happened. Were you playing with the marker?
Michael: No mom. (smiling even more)

I don't think the message is getting through to him. He is starting to understand, but he is still just mostly trying to give us the answer he thinks we want not what really happened.

Naivie has also discovered she can lie. I don't know how to teach her not to lie either! When you figure it out, let me know! :)
At least he only painted little dots. My kids would paint a mural all over their face, arms, stomach and legs and then tell me they weren't into the markers! Either they didn't know what they were using is called a "marker" or they just figured I couldn't see all the pretty colors screaming for attention on their bodies! :-) Good Luck! Just be thankful it wasn't your wall! :-)
